The Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmyhal announced that the country needs at least $120 billion for the next year to support the frontline and reduce losses among defenders in case the conflict with Russia continues. He stated this during the YES conference.
According to Shmyhal, even if the war ends, Ukraine will need to allocate a large amount of funds to support the army in case of possible repeated aggression from Russia. He called for the mobilization of all possible resources to meet these needs.
'The war economy shows that if we spend less money than Russia, we start paying with our territories and, most importantly, our lives. Therefore, we need to attract all necessary sources, all necessary funds'
Shmyhal also noted that after prolonged expenditures on the war, many Ukrainian taxpayers are already exhausted. Therefore, he supported the idea of using frozen Russian assets to compensate for the damages inflicted on Ukraine and other countries. The Prime Minister pointed out that this could be done without confiscation due to the complexity of the legal procedure.
