Major Salary Reform for Ukraine's Social Workers
A new resolution from Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers will significantly increase the salaries of social workers, effective January 1, 2026. A new multiplier of 2.5 will be applied to calculate official salaries, resulting in a 150% rise in base pay for approximately 80,000 professionals in the social work sector. This reform is part of broader efforts to strengthen the country's social safety net, which has been under immense strain.
Projected Salary Increases by Position
The upcoming changes will substantially raise pay across various categories of social workers. For instance:
- The salary for a Social Manager (Grade 15) will increase from 8,243 hryvnias to 20,607 hryvnias.
- A Social Work Specialist (Grade 12) will see their pay rise from 6,773 hryvnias to 16,932 hryvnias.
- A Junior Nurse (Grade 4) will also receive a raise, with pay growing from 4,058 hryvnias to 10,145 hryvnias.
Denys Ulutin, Ukraine's Minister of Social Policy, Family, and Unity, emphasized that this work demands significant resources, measured not only in professional skill but also in emotional investment, the capacity for empathy, and a commitment to helping others.
This salary boost represents a crucial step toward greater recognition for the vital work of social workers in Ukraine. By improving motivation and attracting more specialists to the field, the higher wages are expected to enhance the quality of social services provided. As the demands on social work continue to grow, such reforms are seen as essential for building a more resilient national system of social protection.
