The Significance of Private Solar Generation
In a YouTube interview published on March 20, 2026, on the channel 'Oleg Popenko PRO', Oleg Popenko, head of the Ukrainian Union of Utility Consumers, discussed the critical role private solar generation plays for the nation's power grid. “If we understand that the cost of electricity for me today is 4.32, tomorrow 5, the day after tomorrow 7, and each of us installs 10-15 kilowatts of electricity for our own needs on a private house, then in this way we will truly help the entire energy system, we will unload it,” he said.

Oleg Popenko also highlighted the need for a reorientation in energy policy. He believes that instead of supporting all private individuals and installing solar panels on multi-apartment buildings, it is crucial to concentrate efforts on the private housing sector.
“We must reorient ourselves: not to put solar panels on apartment buildings, but to put solar panels on the private sector,” he added.
