The National Bank of Ukraine has published its report on the movement of funds in the special defense account for January 2026. This account, a critical channel for international aid, received 4.2 billion UAH during the month. Of this, over 3.3 billion UAH was transferred to support the nation's security and defense forces. The special account was opened on February 24, 2022, and since its inception, it has received nearly 151 billion UAH in equivalent value, with over 129 billion UAH originating from foreign currency donations.

As of February 1, 2026, the balance on the special account stands at over 26.2 billion UAH. A significant portion of the January disbursements included a transfer of over 2 billion UAH to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on January 12, 2026. The total payments to the Ministry since the war began have now exceeded 38.6 billion UAH. Furthermore, the Defense Procurement Agency received 1.27 billion UAH in mid-January, while regional military administrations were allocated over 68 million UAH throughout the month.

Key Funding Priorities for January

The primary recipients of funds in January 2026 were:

  • The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine
  • The Defense Procurement Agency
  • Regional Military Administrations

Cumulatively, the Defense Procurement Agency has been allocated over 70.6 billion UAH, while the State Service for Special Communications has received more than 8.1 billion UAH. The National Guard and the National Police have also received substantial support, with approximately 1.65 billion UAH each. Leading countries in terms of contributions to the special account include the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, Switzerland, and Scandinavian nations. Other key structures receiving support are the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the State Emergency Service (DSNS), and direct military units.

The National Bank of Ukraine's report indicates a stable financial flow supporting the country's defense capabilities during the ongoing war.

Established at the onset of the full-scale conflict, the special account continues to play a vital role in financing the needs of Ukraine's security and defense forces, as evidenced by the significant transfer volumes. Monitoring the efficiency of these funds' utilization and their impact on the overall situation in the country remains crucial for the future.
