The Story of Kateryna Lysova
Kateryna Lysova, an employee of the State Migration Service of Ukraine, actively supports her husband's service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine through volunteer work. Her husband returned from abroad after the full-scale invasion began and volunteered to serve. He is currently with the 36th Marine Brigade, but in 2023 he sustained a severe spinal injury. Despite the challenges, Kateryna, alongside other volunteers, continues to raise funds and provide supplies for her husband's unit.
Family and Support
Kateryna Lysova has worked at the State Migration Service since 2015 and has led the archival work sector since 2018. She and her husband have an 18-year-old daughter, Viktoriia, who has entered university to study crisis psychology.
“My husband serves in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It could not have been otherwise.”

She also shared her feelings: “I was very worried. I was against it. But his decision was unwavering. He knew what he had to do.”
The family's situation changed when their daughter Viktoriia returned from abroad. “We thought it would be safer that way… But after a year, she came back. She said she couldn't live in a foreign land,” Kateryna recalls.
This story reflects not only the personal struggle of the Lysov family but also the broader life challenges faced by countless Ukrainians during the war. Kateryna continues to support her family and her volunteer work despite all the difficulties she encounters. Her story is one of resilience and strength of spirit, common among Ukrainians today. Families like hers face the dual reality of supporting defenders on the front line while worrying for their safety. Their support network is a critical lifeline for military personnel and their families during this ongoing conflict.
