On the Midas case: court selects a measure of restraint for the suspect in the sale of sanctions

Суд обрав захід запобіжного характеру для підозрюваного у торгівлі з порушенням санкцій.

Preventive measure for Anna Skorokhod

The High Anti-Corruption Court has chosen a preventive measure for Anna Skorokhod, who is suspected of selling sanctions from the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) for a bribe of 250 thousand dollars. The court set the bail at 3 million 28 thousand hryvnias. This case, known as 'Midas', has attracted significant public interest due to the seriousness of the accusations and the circumstances surrounding the suspect's activities.

Case Details

Anna Skorokhod is suspected in a case of the 'sale' of NSDC sanctions. According to NABU detectives, the group to which Skorokhod belonged offered a businessman to 'negotiate' the inclusion of a competing company in the NSDC sanctions list. The first part of the bribe, amounting to 125 thousand dollars, was transferred in the center of Kyiv. The investigation revealed that the participants in the scheme failed to find a person in the NSDC who would agree to illegal actions.

Searches at Skorokhod's place took place on December 5. After choosing the preventive measure, the court ordered her to surrender her foreign passport and wear an electronic bracelet. However, Skorokhod herself denies all accusations, calling the case a 'fabrication'. She stated:

'I ask NABU to publish the full video, and I once again say that I have never taken money from anyone, have never demanded it, and, moreover, have never incited anyone to hand over money to anyone unknown, for unclear reasons and in unclear places.' - Anna Skorokhod

The 'Midas' case is being investigated by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) in cooperation with the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP). This case highlights the seriousness of the corruption problem in Ukraine and the importance of the work of anti-corruption agencies in fighting offenses.

Cases similar to 'Midas' demonstrate the challenges Ukraine faces in the fight against corruption, as well as the importance of transparency in government institutions. Given the public resonance of this case, the further development of events may impact public trust in anti-corruption agencies and their ability to ensure justice. It should be noted that cases exposing corruption schemes at high levels can contribute to strengthening anti-corruption legislation in the country.
