The USA is ready to conduct another round of negotiations with Iran in Geneva next Friday, but on the condition that Tehran provides a detailed written proposal within 48 hours. Axios reports this.
In Washington, this diplomatic stage is viewed as potentially the last chance to reach an agreement before possibly shifting to harsher scenarios. According to the publication, President Donald Trump is prepared to give the negotiations a final push before considering a large-scale military operation involving the USA and Israel.
USA and Iran Negotiations: 48-hour Deadline
If the Iranian proposal arrives in Geneva, special envoys from the president, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, may arrive on February 27. The American side expects an official document, which will form the basis for detailed negotiations on the parameters of the future agreement.
Washington considers both a full agreement and temporary arrangements as an interim step.
During previous contacts, the USA conveyed to Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi the position of a complete refusal to enrich uranium. However, the White House is ready to consider limited or symbolic enrichment on the condition that it prevents the creation of nuclear weapons.
Possible US Military Operation: What Options Are Being Considered
Some American politicians advocate for a tougher course. Senator Lindsey Graham criticized the idea of delaying military decisions, stating that it could have serious consequences.
Currently, various pressure scenarios on Tehran are being discussed in Washington:
limited strikes on military infrastructure;
a broader military campaign;
continuation of diplomatic efforts with strict conditions.
At the same time, Trump's advisors emphasize that the president reserves the right to change his approach at any moment.
It should be noted that the United Kingdom refused to grant the United States permission to use its military bases for possible strikes on Iran.
