Uncrewed underwater vehicles are becoming a key part of modern naval warfare, and the August 11 test of HADALUS shows how they might be built faster and more cheaply. At 4:00 p.m., U.S. defense firms Raytheon and CET ran the vehicle through its paces on an underwater range while U.S. Navy representatives watched. The vehicle’s defining feature is its ability to fire weapons or drop cargo from depth without needing to surface.
What to Know About HADALUS
The vehicle is about 34 feet long (roughly 10 meters) and is built around an open carbon-fiber frame that floods with water. Developers describe it as highly maneuverable, with a range of more than 2,000 nautical miles. Its price is reported to be 3 to 5 times lower than similar underwater vehicles, making it an economically attractive option for the military.
HADALUS went from initial sketches to an actual sea launch in less than 18 months. Raytheon supplied the electronics and sonars, while CET made the composite body and assembled the vehicle.

Chase Hogoboom, also on the development team, said "they have proven that the underwater defense industry can build quickly and without astronomical budgets." Despite the successful trial, HADALUS is not yet ready for real combat duty; several more testing phases remain.
This development could reshape traditional underwater operations, giving naval forces a swift, cost-effective option for future missions. The coming tests will ultimately determine whether HADALUS becomes a regular part of military strategy.
