The USA expresses regret over the rising civilian casualties in Ukraine

US Deputy Ambassador to the UN, Tammy Bruce, expressed regret over the increase in casualties in the war in Ukraine and condemned Russian attacks during a UN Security Council meeting. She noted that the US watches with regret the 'staggering number of casualties' among the civilian population. Ukraine initiated an emergency meeting of the Security Council following a recent Russian strike in Lviv region, which sparked outrage from the international community.

UN data on civilian casualties

According to the UN, approximately 2400 civilians were killed in Ukraine in 2025, and around 12000 others were injured. The mortality rate among civilians has risen by nearly a third compared to 2024. Since the beginning of the full-scale war in February 2022, 15000 civilians have been killed, including 758 children, and more than 40000 people have been injured.

The strikes carried out by Russia continue to pose a threat to the civilian population. In particular, the strike in Lviv was carried out by a medium-range missile called 'Oreshnik'. A representative from Russia, Andriy Sybiga, commented on this event, stating:

“A medium-range ballistic missile, the so-called 'Oreshnik', was used against the Lviv region.” – Andriy Sybiga

He also emphasized that 'we demand a decisive response to Russia's reckless actions'. Thus, the situation in Ukraine remains critical, and the international community continues to pay attention to the consequences of aggression.

The increase in civilian casualties indicates the seriousness of the conflict and the need to intensify international efforts for its resolution. Republics supporting Ukraine emphasize the importance of coordinated efforts to ensure the safety of civilians and prevent further attacks. This underscores the relevance of international support in restoring peace and stability in the region.
