Meeting of Special Envoy with Iranian Opposition

Special envoy of the US President Steve Witkoff met with former heir to the Iranian throne Reza Pahlavi. This was the first meeting between the Iranian opposition and the Trump administration since the start of protests in Iran. Reza Pahlavi, who leads the opposition faction in the US, discussed the situation in the country with Witkoff, where protest sentiments remain critical.

The Islamic revolution in Iran occurred in 1979, leading to Pahlavi's exile and the establishment of the Islamic Republic. US President Donald Trump was not present at the White House meeting but had previously addressed demonstrators, urging them to continue the fight. At the same time, Secretary of State Marco Rubio is considering non-kinetic methods of responding to protests, indicating the administration's caution regarding Iran issues.

Growing Tension and International Attention

Senator Lindsey Graham, commenting on the situation, called on Trump to take tough measures against Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, whom he referred to as 'the Hitler of our time'. These events underscore the increasing tension between the Iranian opposition and the Islamic regime, as well as the rising international attention to the protests in Iran.

Witkoff's meeting with Pahlavi indicates a shift in the US administration's approach to the situation in Iran, which remains at the center of international news. As protest sentiments in the country continue to escalate, this may serve as a catalyst for further international support for the Iranian opposition. The response of the United States to these events could have serious consequences for regional stability and relations between Iran and the West.
