All Ukrainian citizens who arrived in Poland through official border crossing points due to the war and obtained UKR status have the right to stay in the country until the end of September this year.
Although the Polish government is expected to extend this temporary status, the information platform 'UNICEF Community' advises Ukrainians to consider alternative options for legalization.
Ways to obtain legal status
- Residence Card: The most sought-after way to legalize remains obtaining a residence card, which allows for free border crossing without a visa regime.
- Educational opportunities: Students are given the opportunity to obtain a student visa or stay through studying at Polish educational institutions.
- Specialized programs: Temporary permits are issued for medical treatment or participation in scientific and cultural programs.
- EU Blue Card: Designed for highly qualified specialists with a labor contract in Poland.
- Family ties: Available for family members of Polish citizens or legal foreigners.
- Long-term residence: For Ukrainians who have lived in Poland for more than five years, the status of a long-term EU resident is available.
Experts emphasize that the choice of the method of legalization depends on the individual circumstances of each family and their long-term plans regarding staying in the country.
Earlier, Poland recorded an influx of Ukrainians aged 18-22.
Poland has established a temporary status for Ukrainians who arrived through official border crossing points due to the war but recommends considering alternative ways of legalization. This concerns various categories, from students to highly qualified specialists and individuals with family ties seeking to obtain an extended residence status in the EU.
