Situation with Olga Stefanishina

On August 5, the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) began reviewing the preventive measure for Olga Stefanishina in connection with a new suspicion raised by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP). According to sources, this suspicion concerns illicit enrichment. Stefanishina's defense requested to conduct the hearing in closed mode, arguing the necessity of preserving confidentiality.

On August 3, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed Olga Stefanishina from her position as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to the USA. This dismissal occurred against the backdrop of new accusations. Representatives of the Anti-Corruption Action Center noted that the SAP prosecutor spoke about facts of property acquisition by other individuals on behalf of the suspect.

In July, the SAP opened a criminal proceeding against Olga Stefanishina based on the facts presented in the materials of Ukrainska Pravda, at that time there was no mention of suspicion. During the summer months, Hromadske reported on the purchase of a three-room apartment by Stefanishina's mother, Nadiya Kravets, who acquired the property with an area of 99.8 square meters in the Lvivska Square residential complex in Kyiv for 3.04 million hryvnias. Meanwhile, the minimum price from the developer for similar apartments in October 2022 started from 12 million hryvnias. Stefanishina claims that her parents invested in the apartment in 2019, when the price per square meter was 29 thousand hryvnias.

Comments by Olga Stefanishina

Olga Stefanishina: 'Any procedural actions are part of the lawful work of the law enforcement system, not an established guilt. I regard these events calmly and without unnecessary emotions, and the uproar surrounding this story resembles a storm in a glass of water.'

Stefanishina also noted: 'A significant part of the questions arising in the media, particularly regarding real estate, I commented on publicly and quite thoroughly over a year ago. I had and have nothing to hide.'

Stefanishina emphasized her stance on defending her rights: 'The burden of proof lies with those who make the accusation. I will do what I must: calmly and legally defend my position.' She also highlighted that 'for over ten years I have dedicated myself to serving the state' and assured that she would not evade responsibility: 'Distance will be neither a defense nor an excuse.'

Thus, the case of Olga Stefanishina remains in the spotlight, and her future will be decided in court.

This situation underscores the importance of anti-corruption initiatives in Ukraine and the challenges faced by public officials. Tracking and investigating cases of illicit enrichment is crucial for ensuring transparency and trust in public institutions. The further development of this case may affect public perception of anti-corruption policy in the country and its effectiveness in combating corruption.
