Ukrainian drivers often decorate their interiors, unaware that even small items can result in a fine. The law explicitly prohibits placing any items in the area cleared by wipers, as they can obstruct visibility and create dangerous situations. This is stated in "Your CAR".

What is prohibited to keep on the windshield

According to clause 2.3 of the Traffic Rules, the driver must have a sufficient field of view. A fine of 510 hryvnias is imposed for violations according to part 1 of article 121 of the Code of Administrative Offenses.

The following items are prohibited:

  • air fresheners, keychains, pendants, toys;

  • smartphone holders, navigators, dash cameras on suction cups;

  • stickers, souvenirs, or other decorative elements.

The only exception is officially allowed markings such as insurance, passes, or documents provided by law.

Experts' opinion: even small items affect safety

Driving school instructor from Dnipro, Serhii K., explains that even a small object in the field of view can affect the perception of distance.

«Problems often arise during turns or when blinded by the headlights of oncoming cars», — he noted.

Administrative law lawyer Iryna Koval adds that the decision on the violation is made by the police officer on site:

«The patrol officer assesses whether the item obstructs the view. If so, a fine or warning is inevitable».

How to avoid a fine

Experts advise attaching accessories to the side — near the front pillar or on the dashboard, but not above eye level. A dash camera is better placed behind the rearview mirror to avoid obstructing part of the road.
