Nine Women Wounded in Kansas City Shooting Ahead of 2026 World Cup

Одна з жінок постраждала внаслідок стрілянини в Канзас-Сіті перед проведенням чемпіонату світу 2026 року.

Disturbing Incident

In the lead-up to the FIFA World Cup, a shooting in Kansas City, USA, left nine women injured. The incident took place on Trust Avenue early Saturday morning around 4:00 a.m. According to reports, three women contacted police at the scene and were taken to the hospital. Six other adult victims sought medical care on their own. Police Captain Jake Becchina confirmed that none of the injuries are life-threatening.

At the time of the shooting, no English football players or coaching staff were in the city. Thomas Tuchel’s team was finishing its preparations in Palm Beach, Florida. Notably, the English squad played their first friendly match in Tampa on Saturday, defeating New Zealand 1–0. The Swope Soccer Village base, located less than five miles (about a 10-minute drive) from the shooting site, is set to be used by the England national team during the World Cup.

World Cup Expectations

Organizers anticipate around 650,000 visitors for the World Cup. Kansas City has been selected as the official base for the Argentina and Netherlands national teams. The Argentine squad will train at the main facility of Sporting Kansas City, while the Dutch team will use the Kansas City Current women’s football club base. So far, no suspects have been arrested.

This incident raises serious concerns, as it occurred during preparations for a major sporting event expected to draw thousands of fans. Security at such events is always a top priority, and organizers must implement additional measures to ensure the safety and peace of participants and attendees. Law enforcement’s response to the situation and the ongoing investigation could shape public perceptions of safety during the World Cup.
