Acquittal Issued by Dnipro District Court
In April 2024, the Dnipro District Court of Kyiv acquitted a woman accused of justifying the armed aggression of the Russian Federation. The court ruled that the prosecution failed to prove its case with proper, admissible, and reliable evidence. The primary reason for the acquittal was the prosecutor's failure to present a warrant from a judge of the Kyiv Court of Appeal authorizing the interception of a telephone conversation that was central to the case.
The court determined that the text of the response from the head of the Kyiv Court of Appeal did not allow for the identification of a specific criminal proceeding or decision. This proved to be the decisive factor, as the absence of proper documentation rendered the prosecution's evidence insufficient. The court's verdict can be appealed within 30 days.
Other Cases of Collaboration
This case occurs amidst numerous other legal proceedings against individuals accused of collaborating with the occupying forces. For instance, a woman who headed a school in temporarily occupied Yalta and implemented Russian educational standards there was previously detained in Kyiv. Additionally, a resident of Kherson named Irina was sentenced to 11 years in prison, with 2 years already served, on espionage charges. Separately, the head of the education department of the occupation administration in Lysychansk was sentenced in absentia to 10 years imprisonment. Prior to 2022, this woman served as deputy head of the Lysychansk City Council's education department.

However, the acquittal in this particular case underscores the complex challenges of applying the law in such matters.
