Assets of Russian Defense Firms Confiscated
On February 18, Ukraine's High Anti-Corruption Court approved a motion from the Ministry of Justice to confiscate state assets belonging to two Russian defense enterprises: JSC 'Aviakor' and PJSC 'Rostvertol'. This ruling allows for the seizure of these assets for the benefit of the Ukrainian state. Such asset seizures have become a key legal tool for Ukraine since the onset of the full-scale invasion.
The confiscated property includes spare parts for the AN-140 aircraft, valued at approximately $1.5 million USD. JSC 'Aviakor', which specializes in aircraft manufacturing, major overhauls, and servicing for both military and civilian aircraft, is a significant entity within Russia's defense-industrial complex.
Actions by the High Anti-Corruption Court
The court also granted a motion against PJSC 'Rostvertol', a company within the 'Russian Helicopters' holding group. The order authorized the seizure of 21 helicopter equipment kits. It is notable that the contract between 'Rostvertol' and the Ukrainian state enterprise 'Lviv State Plant 'Lorta'' was originally signed back in 2011. These judicial decisions form part of Ukraine's broader policy to confiscate assets of Russian enterprises amidst the ongoing armed conflict.
These rulings reflect Ukraine's increasing trend of taking proactive measures to combat corruption and safeguard national interests during its war with Russia. The confiscation of assets from Russian companies represents a significant step toward strengthening Ukraine's economic security and signals the state's commitment to seeking redress in its relations with the aggressor nation. Such actions are likely to carry both legal and political implications within the sphere of international relations and interactions with other states.
