Legal Restrictions Extended for Former Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov

Ukraine's High Anti-Corruption Court has extended the procedural obligations for former Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov until April 17, 2026. This decision stems from a charge of official negligence brought against him by Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko, relating to the deaths of nine people in Odesa on September 30, 2025. Trukhanov was reportedly surprised by the formal suspicion. This case is part of a broader anti-corruption drive in Ukraine, which has intensified in recent years with international backing.

Terms of House Arrest

Previously, on December 23, 2025, Kyiv's Pechersky District Court extended Trukhanov's house arrest for an additional month. As part of this pre-trial measure, the accused must comply with a strict set of obligations, including:

  • Appearing before the court upon every summons;
  • Refraining from leaving the city of Odesa or Odesa Oblast without court permission;
  • Informing the court of any change of residence;
  • Avoiding communication with specific individuals named in the court ruling;
  • Surrendering all documents permitting travel abroad for safekeeping;
  • Wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet.

These judicial actions are part of an ongoing investigation where, in addition to official negligence, Trukhanov is also suspected of involvement in a criminal organization and the illegal seizure of community land.

The situation with Gennadiy Trukhanov reflects Ukraine's complex struggle against local-level corruption, a critical factor in rebuilding public trust in state institutions.

The extension of both his procedural obligations and house arrest underscores the gravity of the allegations and the necessity of legal compliance. The continuing investigation could have significant repercussions for the political landscape in Odesa and Ukraine as a whole, as such cases often expose systemic issues in local governance.
