Ihor Myroniuk's Pre-Trial Detention Extended

On March 5, an investigative judge of Ukraine's High Anti-Corruption Court extended the pre-trial detention of Ihor Myroniuk by two months. The court also reduced his bail amount from 126 million hryvnias to 100 million hryvnias. Myroniuk is a suspect in the 'Midas' case, which involves alleged corruption in the energy sector. This case is part of a broader, ongoing crackdown on high-level graft in Ukraine.

Ihor Myroniuk has been held in a Kyiv pre-trial detention center since mid-November 2025. His arrest followed a special operation, codenamed 'Midas', conducted by Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau on November 10. During that operation, five suspects were detained, including Myroniuk and the following individuals:

  • Timur Mindich (Carlson)
  • Dmytro Basov (Tenor)
  • Oleksandr Tsukerman (Sugarman)
  • Ihor Fursenko (Ryoshik)
  • and others

In February 2026, Ukraine's State Financial Monitoring Service froze the funds that were intended to be used for Myroniuk's bail.

Connections and Potential Consequences

Ihor Myroniuk is the godfather to one of the daughters of former Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko and is considered a close family friend. Should the bail be posted, Myroniuk will be subject to a series of procedural obligations, including:

  • appearing when summoned by a detective, prosecutor, or the court;
  • refraining from leaving Kyiv or the Kyiv region without permission;
  • informing authorities of any change of residence;
  • avoiding contact with specified individuals;
  • surrendering his passport for international travel;
  • wearing an electronic monitoring device.

The 'Midas' case has generated significant public attention in Ukraine, highlighting deep-seated corruption issues within the energy sector. The importance of this trial extends beyond punishing specific individuals to the urgent need for systemic reform in Ukraine's energy governance. The lengthy legal proceedings and the possibility of bail illustrate the complexity of the judicial process and the critical role of legal adherence in anti-corruption efforts. Given Myroniuk's connections to high-ranking officials, the outcome of this case could have wider implications for the country's political landscape.
