House Arrest Lifted for Gennadiy Trukhanov

A Kyiv court has released former Odesa mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov from house arrest, replacing it with a personal recognizance order. This legal shift comes as part of an ongoing investigation into official negligence linked to the deaths of nine people on September 30, 2025. The case is being closely watched as a test of Ukraine's judicial system in high-profile corruption and negligence trials.

Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko had formally notified Trukhanov of the suspicion, which the former mayor reportedly found 'unexpected'. Previously, on December 23, 2025, the court had extended Trukhanov's house arrest for an additional month.

New Conditions in the Trukhanov Case

Separately, bail has been posted for Trukhanov in a related case concerning alleged involvement in a criminal organization and illegal land seizure. The shift to a personal recognizance pledge marks a significant new phase in the protracted legal proceedings, which continue to attract considerable public attention.

This alteration in the pre-trial restraint may indicate evolving dynamics within the investigation and the broader legal process. Public confidence in Ukraine's judicial integrity remains a critical issue, especially in resonant cases that capture national interest. As the proceedings advance, future court rulings are likely to significantly influence Trukhanov's legal standing and the ultimate assessment of his alleged actions.
