Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina concluded her performance at the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells in the semifinals. In the match for a place in the final, she lost to the world’s third-ranked player Elena Rybakina in two sets. This is reported by Suspilne Sport.
In the semifinal, the Ukrainian's opponent was one of the leaders of the WTA world ranking. Rybakina managed to win in a tense match and reached the final of the prestigious tournament.
Svitolina Indian Wells: how the semifinal match went
In the first set, the key moment was Rybakina's break in the ninth game. After that, the Kazakhstani tennis player held her serve and won the set 7-5.
The second set started poorly for the Ukrainian: she lost four games in a row. With the score at 1-5, Svitolina tried to get back into the game and won three games in a row, but could not level the score - Rybakina converted the first match point.
Svitolina's prize money: how much the Ukrainian earned
Despite the loss in the semifinals, Svitolina's performance at the tournament brought her significant prize money and ranking points.
As a result of the tournament, the Ukrainian tennis player received:
- 340,190 dollars in prize money
- 390 WTA ranking points
Thanks to this result, Svitolina climbed to eighth place in the live WTA ranking.
It is worth noting that the Ukrainian reached the semifinals after a loud victory over the world’s second-ranked player Iga Swiatek. In the final of Indian Wells, Rybakina will play against the world’s first-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka.
