Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina became the champion of the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome, winning these prestigious competitions for the first time in eight years. In the final, the Ukrainian defeated the world number four, Coco Gauff, in three sets. This was reported by TSN Pro Sport.

In the decisive match of the tournament, 31-year-old Elina Svitolina defeated 22-year-old American Coco Gauff with a score of 6:4, 6:7, 6:2.
This was the sixth personal meeting between the two players, and the Ukrainian secured her fourth victory over the American opponent.
Earlier in 2026, Svitolina had already defeated Gauff twice:
- in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open;
- in the semifinals of the tournament in Dubai.
Elina Svitolina Wins 20th WTA Title of Her Career
The triumph in Rome marked the 20th WTA title for the Ukrainian tennis player in her professional career.
Additionally, this is the third victory for Svitolina at the tournament in Rome. She previously won these competitions in 2017 and 2018.
In the current season, the Ukrainian has reached the final of the WTA tournament three times and has secured her second title.
At the beginning of the year, Svitolina won the tournament in Auckland, and in February, she lost in the final in Dubai.
On Her Way to the Title, Svitolina Defeated Three Top-5 Opponents
During the tournament in Rome, the Ukrainian tennis player defeated several top opponents.
In the quarterfinals, Svitolina defeated the world number two, Elena Rybakina, and in the semifinals, she beat the Polish player Iga Swiatek.
Thus, the Ukrainian concluded the tournament with a series of victories over three representatives of the WTA world top-5 ranking.
Svitolina's victory in Rome became one of the loudest successes of Ukrainian tennis in 2026 and further confirmed her return to the ranks of the main contenders for Grand Slam titles and WTA 1000 tournaments.
