Two separate visa policy updates are set to affect travelers from several countries, highlighting ongoing alignment with EU standards and shifts in tourism management.
Montenegro to Impose Visa Requirements Starting November 2026
Beginning November 1, 2026, Montenegro will require visas for citizens of Belarus, China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. This move aligns the country’s visa policy with that of the European Union. The Montenegrin government approved the decision on July 23, 2026. Under the new rules, individuals from nations whose previous visa regimes did not match the EU’s will need a visa to enter Montenegro.
In return for harmonizing its visa policy, Montenegro will receive approximately €4 million from the EU Growth Plan for the Western Balkans. Authorities also announced the development of a new visa information system, designed to simplify the application process and ensure compliance with EU standards.
Changes to Thailand’s Visa-Free Program
Meanwhile, Thailand intends to reduce the maximum visa-free stay for citizens from 93 countries—including Ukraine—from 60 days down to 30 days. Officials from Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports stated that this change is unlikely to harm the tourism sector, since most foreign visitors already spend less than a month in the country.
