Ukraine is facing a taxi driver shortage: why prices for rides will rise in winter

В Україні спостерігається нестача водіїв таксі: чому вартість поїздок зросте взимку.

This winter, the cost of taxi rides in Ukraine may increase, but not due to rising fuel prices. The main factor contributing to the hike is the shortage of drivers. Experts claim this could lead to a rise in fares, which residents of cities are already starting to feel.

According to specialists, drivers predominantly work on gas or diesel, so the increase in gasoline prices does not significantly affect the cost of rides. The number of drivers in the market is decreasing, leading to many vehicles in taxi fleets being inactive due to a lack of workers. Cargo and the potential blackout during winter in large cities may also push taxi prices upward.

Additionally, in Kyiv, taxis may be allowed to operate during the curfew, highlighting the increasing demand for taxi services in challenging situations.
