Glovo Hit by Major Bug: Customers Charged Thousands Instead of Tips

Клієнти Glovo зіткнулися з серйозними проблемами: несподівані зняття коштів з рахунків замість чайових.

System Failure and Courier Incidents

The delivery service Glovo has acknowledged a significant technical failure that resulted in customers being charged large sums from their accounts instead of the intended tips. In some instances, amounts ranging from 5,000 to 11,000 Ukrainian hryvnias were withdrawn, despite customers intending to leave only 50-100 hryvnias. Glovo stated the issue was caused by a widespread system glitch affecting its platform across multiple countries. This type of error highlights the financial risks inherent in automated payment systems.

The company's specialists have now fixed the error and are working to refund the money. Separately from this technical issue, two unrelated incidents involving Glovo couriers have been reported in Kyiv:

  • The first occurred in the Nyvky district, where a Glovo employee assaulted a 65-year-old pensioner, hitting him in the face.
  • Another incident took place on January 30 in Kyiv's Pechersk district, where a driver shot a Glovo courier in the head near the Zvirynetska metro station. The courier survived thanks to a helmet that saved his life. The pistol used was identified as a gas weapon. The conflict between the car driver and the courier originated from a traffic dispute.

Company Response and Implications

Glovo is currently addressing the refund process for affected customers while also responding to the separate courier incidents in the capital. The situation underscores the critical importance of safety for both customers and delivery personnel, as well as the need for robust technical systems to prevent similar failures. How the company handles these concurrent crises will likely impact user trust and its reputation in the competitive delivery market.
