A Moscow court has fined Telegram Messenger Inc. 35 million rubles for failing to remove prohibited content. The Tagansky District Court found the messaging service guilty on five counts of administrative offenses, specifically for not deleting information containing calls for extremism, illegal materials, or other content subject to blocking within Russia.
The fine was imposed after Telegram did not comply with a demand from Russia's Prosecutor General's Office to delete specific messages by the end of 5th February. The company failed to act on the request within 24 hours, leading the judge to levy the substantial penalty.
