Ternopil purchased 17 new low-floor trolleybuses from Lviv production. The city has already put 14 vehicles on the routes, while the exact timeline for the introduction of the remaining three has not been announced yet. This is reported by Suspilne Ternopil.

Which trolleybuses did Ternopil receive in August 2026

The winner of the tender, which had only one participant, was the Lviv manufacturer 'Electron'. The first batch was purchased for 5.5 million euros with a loan from the European Investment Bank. One trolleybus cost more than 18 million UAH.

The new vehicles are designed for 134 passengers: the cabin has 32 seats and 102 standing places. The transport is equipped with:

  • three validators;

  • six external and internal cameras;

  • air conditioning and heating in the cabin;

  • space for a passenger in a wheelchair;

  • a retractable ramp.

The trolleybuses are equipped with one traction motor with a capacity of 160 kW. At KP 'Ternopolelectrotrans', they expect that the new vehicles will consume less electricity than the old articulated buses with two motors with a total capacity of 200 kW.

When will Ternopil receive the next trolleybuses in 2027

Next year, the city plans to receive another 27 trolleybuses, and roughly six months after this shipment – four additional vehicles. In total, the transport fleet should be replenished with 48 new trolleybuses.

For the batch of 27 vehicles, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development provided a 10 million euro loan and a 4 million euro grant. Another 2 million euros are earmarked for the purchase of the last four trolleybuses.

Currently, the 'Ternopolelectrotrans' fleet consists of 63 vehicles. Only three low-floor LAZ buses were purchased new in 2006-2008, while the other trolleybuses previously operated in the Czech Republic. The update should gradually reduce the share of worn-out equipment, for which it becomes increasingly difficult to find spare parts.

In Ternopil, preparations are underway for another revision of transport fare tariffs. Carriers submitted calculations indicating that the cost of a single trip could rise to 26-32 hryvnias, however, the city council is still considering a compromise option with lower rates.
