Tragedy in Lisbon: 17 people died as a result of a tram accident

Malfunctioning braking systems led to the tragedy
The braking actions, including pneumatic brakes and manual brakes, had no effect and could not reduce the speed of the cabin. As a result, the speed increased, leading to the tragedy.
According to witnesses and based on the inspection of debris at the scene, it was immediately established that the connecting cable had broken at the attachment point to the cabin located at the top of the hill.
The final report on the causes of the accident is expected to be published later. Local authorities continue to investigate to clarify all circumstances of the disaster.
