Ukraine has sent its own peace plan to Washington, which directly contradicts U.S. President Donald Trump's proposal regarding territorial concessions for the sake of ending the war. The Ukrainian document envisages maintaining control over all territories currently held by Kyiv, as well as providing mandatory legal security guarantees from the U.S. and European partners. This information is published by “Glavcom” citing The New York Times.
According to European diplomats and Western officials, the Ukrainian proposal is a response to Trump's 28-point plan, which was released three weeks ago and caused a wave of outrage in Europe due to its close proximity to Russian demands.
The Ukrainian peace plan consists of 20 points and, according to diplomats, will almost certainly be unacceptable to Moscow. However, Kyiv believes that the demand to give up more territories than Russia currently holds is effectively rewarding the aggressor.
President Volodymyr Zelensky informed that the Ukrainian proposal consists of three documents. One of them concerns the post-war reconstruction of the country, while another provides for assistance in case of renewed aggression from Russia by the U.S. and European states.
“We need effective security guarantees that will provide clear answers to the question of what partners will do if Russia attacks again.”
Despite this, American negotiators have already expressed a desire to make changes to the Ukrainian plan, proposing to create a “free economic zone” in the Ukrainian-controlled part of Donbas without Ukrainian and Russian troops. However, Zelensky expressed doubts about this idea due to the lack of complete withdrawal of Russian troops from the region.
