U.S. President’s Meeting with Iran
U.S. President Donald Trump held a two-hour session in the White House Situation Room focused on potential agreements with Iran. Following the meeting, Trump did not make a final decision but announced he would approve it during the next briefing. The conditions discussed during the meeting included:
- reopening the Strait of Hormuz,
- Iran abandoning nuclear weapons,
- shipping enriched uranium to the United States.
Tehran had previously rejected these demands, and Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated that the negotiations do not address the nuclear issue.
Regional Tensions
The meeting took place amid recent reciprocal shelling and escalating tensions in the region. Trump threatened to resume full-scale hostilities if no compromise is reached. If an agreement is achieved, the U.S. is prepared to lift the naval blockade of Iranian ports. At the same time, the deal aims to extend the ceasefire to prepare for negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program.
Washington and Tehran have agreed on a draft 60-day memorandum of understanding, which requires approval from the U.S. president. Tehran accused Washington of violating the nearly seven-week-long ceasefire. In response to regional tensions, U.S. forces conducted airstrikes on targets in southern Iran’s Hormozgan province. U.S. Central Command described these actions as defensive, targeting missile launch sites and boats attempting to lay mines.
“The United States will no longer have a safe haven for its actions and for establishing military bases in the region, and each day they move further away from their former status.”
Mojtaba Khamenei, Supreme Leader of Iran
Trump, in turn, expressed hope that “Ships stuck in the strait due to our amazing and unprecedented naval blockade, which will now be lifted, can begin the process of returning home!”
As a result, the situation surrounding Iran remains tense, with both sides pledging to take steps toward better mutual understanding despite existing disagreements. These events highlight that U.S.-Iran negotiations continue to be a focal point of international attention, and their outcome will shape the region’s future, particularly regarding the security of the Strait of Hormuz—a critical route for oil shipments. Every move made by the parties could significantly impact global markets and geopolitical stability.
