Donald Trump's threats regarding Cuba

U.S. President Donald Trump has made threats towards Cuba, stating that there will be no more oil and money supplies to the island and urged to reach an agreement. Trump emphasized that Cuba has depended on oil and money from Venezuela for many years, providing 'security services' to the last two Venezuelan dictators.

Trump's statement was part of a broader U.S. policy towards Cuba and Venezuela, especially in the context of recent events. Recall that on January 3rd, American military detained Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores. During this operation, 100 people were killed, including Maduro's guards and Cuban military, while the American side also suffered losses, with several fighters injured.

U.S.-Cuba relations

Trump noted that Venezuela now has the United States, the most powerful army in the world, to protect itself, and assured that the country will be defended.

“No more oil, no more money will come to Cuba - zero! I strongly advise them - reach an agreement before it’s too late!” - Donald Trump

In the U.S. State Department, the Cuban government was labeled a 'major problem', indicating the tension in relations between the countries.

Such rhetoric from Trump signals an increase in U.S. pressure on Cuba in the context of a growing political crisis in Venezuela. The withdrawal of support for the Cuban government and threats to end economic ties could have serious consequences for Cuba's economy, which is already suffering from sanctions and internal issues. At the same time, such actions may heighten tensions between the U.S. and Cuba, leading to further escalation of conflict in the region.
