Third Electrocution in a Year: Teenager Injured on Train Roof in Borodianka

Третя електротравма за рік: підліток отримав травми на даху поїзда в Бородянці.

Incident in Borodianka

A 13-year-old boy is hospitalized after being electrocuted on the roof of an electric train in Borodianka. The incident occurred when the teenager climbed onto the roof of a 'Teteriv – Sviatoshyno' line train near the station. He sustained thermal burns, a head injury, and a fracture from the electric shock and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in the Kyiv region.

A Disturbing Pattern in Ukraine

This is not an isolated event. In May 2025, a 14-year-old schoolgirl from Bucha, Tetiana Kydanchuk, suffered fatal 70% burns after being electrocuted on a train roof. Her injuries were third and fourth-degree burns. In another tragic case on March 13, 2025, a 12-year-old boy died in hospital from burns after being electrocuted on a train roof at the 'Kyiv-Volynskyi' station. These incidents highlight the extreme danger of climbing on electrified rail vehicles, a reckless activity sometimes known as 'train surfing.'

These tragedies underscore the lethal hazards associated with being on the roofs of electric trains and call for greater caution among young people. It is crucial to emphasize safety around railway infrastructure, as such incidents can lead to severe injury or death. Education and preventative measures in this area are vital to preventing similar cases in the future.

The recent incident in Borodianka is part of a troubling trend involving railway safety in Ukraine. Similar to the tragic case of a man who lost his life after disregarding safety signals in Irpin, these events highlight the urgent need for increased awareness and education on the dangers surrounding railway infrastructure.
