As of the end of June 2025, more than 1 million 91 thousand foreigners officially lived in the Czech Republic, which is 35 thousand more than in the same period in 2024. Such data was published by the Czech Ministry of Interior in a report on the migration situation for the first half of the current year. This was reported by the portal 'Czechia-online.'
The largest group among all migrants consists of citizens of Ukraine — more than 581 thousand, which corresponds to 53% of the total number of foreigners. In terms of numbers, Ukrainians significantly lag behind Slovaks (more than 123 thousand), Vietnamese (almost 69 thousand), and citizens of Russia (about 38 thousand).
The share of foreigners in the population of the Czech Republic reached 10.3%. At the same time, more than a third of them are concentrated in the capital of the country — Prague. Currently, there are also more than 234.5 thousand citizens of European Union countries, the European Economic Area, and Switzerland in the Czech Republic. They make up 21% of the total number of foreigners.
The Czech Ministry of Interior emphasized that the main factor in the growth of the number of migrants remains the provision of temporary protection to Ukrainians who are fleeing full-scale war. According to the report, more than 378 thousand people are registered under this program, which provides access to health insurance, education, and the labor market.
Other indicators of the report
As of June, about 385 thousand foreigners had a residence permit, and another 328 thousand had a temporary stay permit. In the first half of 2025, 429 people applied for international protection, among whom the most active were citizens of Vietnam (83 applications), as well as Ukrainians, Uzbeks, Moldovans, and Turks.
It was separately noted in the report that during the six months under the assisted voluntary return program, 480 people left the country, most of whom were returning to Vietnam. Another 91 foreigners left the Czech Republic under forced returns carried out by the police.
The number of foreigners in the Czech Republic increased at the beginning of 2025 compared to the previous period. The largest group among them consists of citizens of Ukraine receiving temporary protection due to the war in their country. This led to an increase in the total number of foreigners in the Czech Republic to over 1 million people. Nevertheless, there is also an active influx of citizens from other countries, such as Vietnam, Slovaks, and others.
