The defendants included the head of the Cherkasy Oblast Committee of the Communist Party, People's Deputy of the Communist Party from 1994 to 2002 Viktor Roenko, as well as the head of the city committee and two supporters of the Communist Party.
In March 2025, Viktor Roenko, Oleg Malyi, Mykola Hurynenko, and Yurii Danilov were notified of suspicion under Article 436-2 - justification, recognition of legitimacy, denial of armed aggression by Russia against Ukraine that began in 2014. According to the investigation, the accused successfully spread disinformation about events in Donbas and the annexation of Crimea, trying to justify Russia's actions.
During the session, one of the defendants, Mykola Hurynenko, even drew the court's attention to an error in the surname. He claimed that the middle name was incorrectly indicated, so this may indicate that he is not the one being tried. Prosecutor Vadym Kolomiets clarified that the error had already been corrected, and the suspicion was changed to match the actual surname. As a result, Viktor Roenko and Oleg Malyi had their nighttime house arrest extended for another two months, Mykola Hurynenko was entrusted with a personal obligation, and the fourth suspect was not selected for a preventive measure for medical reasons.
The case of the suspects in justifying the aggression of the Russian Federation reviewed evidence and valid grounds for new decisions regarding preventive measures.
