The European Union sharply condemned the intentions of the Russian authorities to ban the activities of the human rights organization Moscow Helsinki Group.
In the EU, this decision was termed politically motivated and another sign of increasing censorship, according to the official website of the European External Action Service.
'The Ministry of Justice of Russia has filed a lawsuit to close one of the most respected human rights organizations in the country, the Moscow Helsinki Group. This initiative is clearly politically motivated,' the statement said.

In the EU, it is believed that since its founding in 1976, the group 'has been tirelessly working to protect human rights.'
'Russian authorities continue to ignore international and domestic obligations, systematically violating human rights and taking harsh measures against journalists, human rights defenders, and activists, as well as shutting down or blocking independent media. This tendency to destroy independent and critical voices has only intensified since Russia began its illegal aggressive war against Ukraine,' the message stated.
The EU also expressed its solidarity with all victims of human rights violations by the Russian Federation and emphasized that it will continue to 'support Russian human rights defenders both in Russia and abroad.'
The United States is making every effort to isolate the Russian Federation in international organizations. If there were a way to suspend Russia's membership in the UN Security Council, the US would immediately take advantage of it, said White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre during a briefing.
The lower house of the Polish parliament passed a resolution naming Russia a state that supports terrorism.
