Completion of emergency rescue operations in Kharkiv
Emergency rescue operations in Kharkiv have been completed following a Russian strike on the city, resulting in casualties and damaged buildings. On January 2, Russian forces struck the central part of Kharkiv, destroying a commercial and office building and part of a residential multi-apartment building.
Results of the rescue operations
For more than 8 days, rescuers, police, and volunteers conducted search and rescue operations, managing to save 12 people. 2 bodies and fragments of another 5 deceased were found. To eliminate the consequences of the strike, more than 11.5 thousand tons of structures were dismantled. Psychologists from the State Emergency Service provided assistance to 30 victims. Rescuers and equipment from Kharkiv and other garrisons and units of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine were involved in the work.
This situation highlights the scale of the humanitarian crisis arising from the hostilities, as well as the importance of the rapid response of rescue services to emergencies. The search and rescue operations that lasted for more than a week demonstrate the efforts of local authorities and the community to assist the affected and restore normal life in the region. At the same time, the events in Kharkiv are evidence of the ongoing armed conflict and its impact on the civilian population of Ukraine.
