As a result of the strikes by Ukrainian troops on Russian oil refineries, Kyiv has strengthened its position in negotiations and undermined one of the key sources of income for the Kremlin. According to Forbes, as a result of coordinated drone attacks, Russia began experiencing significant disruptions in the operations of its oil refineries. In August alone, more than ten facilities were hit, limiting the operation of approximately 17% of refining capacity, which amounted to about 1.1 million barrels per day.

The resulting crisis has led to a fuel shortage and record-high gasoline prices in Russia. This forced Moscow to limit exports to stabilize the domestic market. The result has been a financial blow to the revenues of the Russian government, as well as increased known costs for the repair and protection of oil refineries. According to experts, this situation may compel the Russian leadership to reconsider its approaches and intensify dialogue in the negotiation process.
