In Kyiv, due to the difficult situation in the energy system, the movement of all surface electric transport has been temporarily stopped. On key routes with a high passenger flow, duplicating bus routes have been introduced, which operate both on the left and right banks of the capital. This is reported by the Kyivpastrans municipal company.

Electric transport in Kyiv: how the duplicating buses operate

According to Timur Kostenko, head of the movement organization service of Kyivpastrans, buses have temporarily replaced electric transport along 30 trolleybus and 10 tram routes. They primarily operate on routes with the highest passenger flow.

Features of the operation of the duplicating routes:

  • buses operate on both the left and right banks
  • the number of vehicles changes depending on the time of day
  • during peak hours, the number of buses increases

Bus drivers, who have undergone the appropriate training and received the necessary driver's license category, are also involved in driving the buses. If necessary, the number of buses is planned to be increased in the future.

When will electric transport be restored in Kyiv

The timeline for the full restoration of electric transport operations depends on the repair of infrastructure facilities damaged during shelling and the stabilization of the energy system. After that, the movement of trams and trolleybuses will be restored gradually.

Kyivpastrans noted that current schemes and the schedule of duplicating buses have been published on the official website of the enterprise so that passengers can plan their trips around the city in advance.

Transport restrictions have been introduced against the backdrop of massive Russian attacks on the capital. After shelling on the night of January 9 and 12-13, the city has experienced power outages, heating, and water interruptions, and emergency outages are still in effect in some areas.

Earlier, we talked about the energy crisis in Kyiv, which led to significant changes in public transport operations. Due to the cold and restrictions, buses are now operating on routes instead of trams and trolleybuses, causing difficulties for passengers.
