Kyiv Authorities Dismantle Arms Trafficking Ring Operating from Fake Auto Shop

Київські правоохоронці викрили злочинну схему постачання зброї, що діяла під прикриттям автосервісу.

Kyiv Weapons Trafficking Ring Shut Down

Law enforcement in Kyiv has dismantled an illegal weapons and ammunition trafficking network that was using a service center as a front. The operation resulted in the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of a significant arsenal of weapons, ammunition, and explosive devices. Investigators determined that a 50-year-old Kyiv resident had organized the illicit arms trade from an improvised service center set up in his own home.

Seized Arsenal and Arrests

During searches, authorities confiscated the following items:

  • six firearms,
  • three grenade launchers,
  • approximately 200 grenades and grenade launcher rounds,
  • a TNT block,
  • an anti-tank guided missile,
  • a directional anti-personnel mine,
  • over 8,000 rounds of ammunition.

The Prosecutor General's Office reported that documented sales from this operation included various types of grenades, a rocket-propelled anti-tank grenade, an under-barrel grenade launcher, more than 3,500 rounds of various calibers, two assault rifles, and a light machine gun.

All detained individuals were held under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and have been formally suspected under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Following a prosecution request, the court has ordered them to be held in custody with the possibility of bail.

In 2025 alone, Ukrainian law enforcement registered 8,603 criminal offenses under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code. Prosecutors sent indictments to court in 4,377 of these cases for the year. The Prosecutor General's Office noted that significant quantities of armaments were removed from illegal circulation in 2025, including:

  • 1,412 units of rifled firearms,
  • 419 units of other firearms,
  • 43 smoothbore weapons,
  • 186 grenade launchers and rocket systems,
  • over 667,000 rounds of ammunition,
  • nearly 4,900 grenades,
  • 69 mines,
  • 246 improvised explosive devices, and
  • more than 2.6 tons of explosives.

This case underscores the ongoing and serious challenge of illegal arms trafficking in Ukraine, which remains a key priority for security forces. The substantial increase in seized weaponry suggests authorities are intensifying efforts to neutralize threats posed by the black-market arms trade, a persistent concern for public safety. The Kyiv operation is part of a broader national campaign against organized crime, a critical task as the country works to stabilize its internal security situation.
