Andriy Parubiy Honored With Street Naming in Kyiv
On April 23, the Kyiv City Council voted to assign the name of Andriy Parubiy to an unnamed roadway between Mariinsky Park and building No. 9 on Mykhailo Hrushevsky Street. The decision received support from 70 deputies during a plenary session of the 5th meeting of the 9th convocation of the Kyiv City Council. This area sits in the heart of the capital, close to the country's legislature.
Andriy Parubiy, a prominent Ukrainian politician, was assassinated on August 30, 2025, in Lviv near his residence. A perpetrator disguised as a courier approached him and fired eight shots from a pistol at close range. The suspect was apprehended on the night of September 1 in the Khmelnytskyi region. Investigators determined that the 53-year-old Lviv resident was acting as an agent for Russian intelligence services. Since 2024, he had been passing information about Ukrainian Armed Forces units in Lviv to the enemy. Moreover, he proposed Andriy Parubiy as a target for assassination and received a Makarov pistol with ammunition on instructions from his handler in Russia.

Law enforcement discovered the silenced pistol used in Parubiy's killing in a forest. The Security Service of Ukraine found the weapon in mid-December last year. Reports indicate that after committing the crime, the killer attempted to destroy evidence, but forensic examinations confirmed his involvement in the murder.
Maryna Poroshenko, commenting on the naming of the roadway after Andriy Parubiy, stated: 'Andriy Parubiy's name is inextricably linked to the affirmation of Ukrainian statehood, the establishment of modern parliamentary traditions, and the consistent defense of Ukraine's national interests.'
She also emphasized that 'Andriy Parubiy was one of those politicians who not only shaped the modern history of the Ukrainian parliament but also defended the state's strategic course toward freedom, democracy, and a European future.'
According to her, 'naming a roadway near the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine after him is a sign of deep respect for his contribution to the fight for Ukraine's independence, the development of parliamentarism, and the strengthening of our national resilience.'
