In 2026, Kyiv plans to implement a number of solutions for the development of a barrier-free space in transport, urban infrastructure, and rehabilitation services. This includes updating ground crossings, public transport, and navigation elements for people with disabilities. This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration.
The city authorities note that barrier-free access in the capital is viewed as a systemic policy aimed at creating a comfortable environment for all residents, including people with visual impairments, mobility challenges, and parents with strollers.
Barrier-free space in Kyiv's transport and streets
According to the KCSA, in 2026, the city plans to implement the following infrastructure changes:
- the arrangement of 14 regulated pedestrian crossings;
- completion of supplies of 25 low-floor buses for urban routes;
- reconstruction of four traffic light objects;
- installation of 80 sound notification devices for people with visual impairments.
Also, within the framework of the development of barrier-free routes, a reduction of curbs, the arrangement of safety islands, and barrier-free approaches to socially significant objects are planned.
Barrier-free space in Kyiv and the development of rehabilitation services
In the capital's metro, plans to further expand tactile navigation and entry passages are underway. Currently, these elements are already functioning at ten metro stations.
An additional focus in 2026 is the development of rehabilitation and social services. The city plans to launch:
- Kyiv City Center for Social and Psychological Rehabilitation “Askold”;
- a social rehabilitation center for individuals with intellectual and mental disorders;
- a daytime care center for people with disabilities;
- a daycare center in the territory of the Sviatoshyn orphanage;
- comprehensive rehabilitation centers for children and individuals with disabilities in the Sviatoshyn and Shevchenkivskyi districts.
The KCSA reminds that over 160 thousand people with disabilities live in Kyiv, of which about 16 thousand are children.
We remind you that 15 communities in Ukraine are creating barrier-free routes.
