Kyiv’s Cultural Scene Heats Up: Repin and Marchuk Exhibitions, Plus Concerts by Melovin and MamaRika

Kyiv Events: May 11–17

From May 11 through 17, Kyiv will host a rich lineup of cultural happenings, including art exhibitions, theater performances, concerts, and stand-up comedy shows. The spotlight will be on works by renowned artists Ivan Marchuk and Ilya Repin, alongside productions from various theater troupes. These events offer locals and visitors alike a chance to engage with Ukraine’s vibrant arts scene.

Exhibitions

Ilya Repin’s exhibition, titled 'Realist and Dreamer,' will run from May 15 to September 30, 2026. Its preview is set for May 13 at 5:00 PM at the Kyiv Art Gallery, located at 9 Tereshchenkivska Street. Additionally, starting May 8 at 6:00 PM, Oleksandr Dets opens his exhibition 'I...' at the National Museum of Decorative Arts of Ukraine (21 Ivana Mazepy Street, Building 2).

Ivan Marchuk’s permanent exhibition will be open from May 12, daily from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM (closed Monday and Thursday), with Tuesday hours from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. His show 'I Shook This World' runs until May 17, 2026, at the Museum and Exhibition Center of the Museum of Kyiv’s History (7 Bohdana Khmelnytskoho Street). It features nearly 250 works, including a 1971 portrait of Bohdan Stupka and three new abstract pieces created in Vienna in 2024. Notably, Ivan Marchuk is a recipient of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine, awarded in 1997.

Theater Performances

The capital’s theater calendar includes several notable shows. 'Mesopotamia' will be performed on May 11 at 6:00 PM at the Ivan Franko Theater, while 'Macbeth' takes place on May 12 at 6:00 PM at the Kyiv Municipal Academic Opera and Ballet Theater for Children and Youth (MCCM). On May 13 at 6:00 PM, Olena Kravets presents her one-woman show 'Can I Just Sit?' at the MCCM, directed by Olena Kolyadenko. On May 14 at 6:00 PM, audiences can see 'The Master Builder' (Solness) at the Lesya Ukrainka Theater, directed by Dmytro Bohomazov. Also on May 14 at 7:30 PM, the Planetarium will host a classical music concert titled 'Moonlight.'

Concerts and Stand-Up Shows

Concerts will be a major highlight of Kyiv’s cultural week. Melovin performs on May 15 at 8:00 PM at Feels Garden on the VDNG grounds. Melovin gained fame after winning 'X-Factor' and participating in Eurovision 2018. On May 16, MamaRika will take the stage at the same venue, also at 8:00 PM.

For stand-up comedy fans, on May 11 at 6:30 PM, the Krakiv cluster hosts 'Passive-Aggressive' with Emma Antonyuk, featuring Oleksandr Kachura, Vasyl Baidak, Shcherbyna, and Shumko. Closing the week, on May 17 at 6:00 PM, Lera Mandzyuk performs a cultural stand-up show at the MCCM.

Throughout this week, Kyiv transforms into a cultural hub, blending diverse art forms and entertainment.
