Heating System Repairs Progress in Kyiv

Over the weekend, heating was restored to 27 buildings in Kyiv that had been without power since a Russian attack on January 9. However, as of today, 19 buildings remain without heat, a situation now lasting over 10 days. To address the crisis, 50 additional repair crews are now working to fix the damage. This effort is part of a larger, city-wide operation to restore heating to 106 buildings affected by various system failures. Specialists from across Ukraine have been brought in to accelerate the process.

The repair teams now involved include:

  • 30 specialized crews of welders and plumbers from regions including Donetsk, Kharkiv, Odesa, and Lviv;
  • 20 crews from other areas, such as Kyiv, Rivne, Zhytomyr, and Vinnytsia regions.
A government representative, Oleksiy Kuleba, stated: 'We have purposefully intensified the restoration of heating supply in Kyiv.'

He added that 'work will continue until heat is restored to every apartment.' In a significant logistical move, 100 railway workers from Ukrzaliznytsia have also been deployed to assist, which should help resolve the heating issues more quickly. These winter repairs are a critical humanitarian effort, as sub-zero temperatures pose a severe risk to residents.

The Critical Importance of Restoring Heat

Restoring heating in Kyiv is a vital step in ensuring the comfort and safety of the city's residents during the harsh winter. The mobilization of extra crews and specialists from other regions underscores the severity of the situation and the concerted effort to find a rapid solution. The authorities continue to work on improving conditions for citizens, which is critically important amid the ongoing war and constant threats from the aggressor.
