Introducing the All-Red Traffic Pause in Kyiv
Beginning September 15 at 9:00 AM, Kyiv will gradually roll out a new traffic control protocol that halts all movement during the nationwide minute of silence observed daily. This measure will simultaneously stop cars, pedestrians, cyclists, and surface public transport at 18 key intersections in the city center. The initiative honors those who lost their lives due to Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine.
How the All-Red Signal Works
This new traffic pause will activate each day at 9:00 AM, coinciding with the legally mandated national minute of silence established by Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada. For one minute, all traffic lights will display red to vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists alike. Surface public transportation will also come to a temporary halt during this time. After the minute passes, traffic signals will resume their normal patterns.
Initially, this protocol will be implemented at 18 traffic light locations throughout central Kyiv, including:

Plans are in place to expand this protocol to additional areas of Kyiv as technical capabilities allow.
It is important to note that the all-red traffic pause will not be enforced during air raid alerts. Emergency and special vehicles using flashing lights and sirens will remain exempt and able to move freely. Existing traffic laws regarding running red lights continue to apply.
