Incident in Kyiv's Shevchenkivskyi District

A 53-year-old man was detained in Kyiv's Shevchenkivskyi district for attempting to damage the car of Ukrainian Member of Parliament Ihor Huzy. The incident occurred around 06:50 a.m. on Bulvarno-Kudriavska Street, where the detainee, a native of the Luhansk region, tried to smash the window of a Land Rover SUV with a brick. A canister containing an unknown liquid was found near the scene.

Police have initiated criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, concerning hooliganism. Investigative actions are currently underway, and the charges could be upgraded to a more serious offense if the arson theory is confirmed.

MP's Response to the Attack

MP Ihor Huzy stated that the situation was a clear attempt at intimidation, linked to his stance in opposing the Moscow-affiliated church. He noted that he spotted the suspect near the canister and, when the man fled, managed to chase him down approximately two hundred meters from the scene.

"This situation is a clear attempt at intimidation, linked to my position in the fight against the Moscow church" - Ihor Huzy

This case has caused public outrage and could have serious consequences for the detainee, given the potential for more severe charges. The investigation continues, with law enforcement gathering evidence.

The detention highlights the security challenges facing public figures in Ukraine, particularly those involved in contentious political and religious issues. Such incidents underscore the heightened tensions in Ukrainian society regarding the influence of Russian-linked institutions.
