A foreign national has been detained in Kyiv on suspicion of a brutal assault in a hotel that left a local man with severe injuries, including the loss of an eye. The suspect has been formally notified of suspicion under the article of the criminal code concerning intentional grievous bodily harm. This case highlights the severe legal consequences for violent crime in Ukraine, which remains focused on maintaining public order.

The incident occurred late in the evening at a hotel on Yuriy Illienka Street in the Shevchenkivskyi district. According to reports, a 38-year-old foreigner became involved in a conflict with a 42-year-old Kyiv resident who was attending an event at the establishment. During the altercation, the assailant, who was in a state of alcohol intoxication, repeatedly struck the victim in the head with his fists and feet.

Victim's Condition and Legal Proceedings

The victim was hospitalized with a diagnosis of closed craniocerebral trauma and a concussion. The beating resulted in the man losing an eye. The foreigner's detention was carried out under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. He has been served notice of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code, which carries a potential penalty of up to eight years of imprisonment. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
