Arrest in Kyiv's Podil District: Looter Preyed on War-Damaged Homes
A 29-year-old man with a prior criminal record has been arrested in Kyiv's Podil district for looting homes damaged during a Russian missile attack. The suspect, who was already wanted for another property crime, broke into apartments during and immediately after the air raid sirens sounded. Under martial law, looting carries a penalty of up to eight years in prison, and authorities are preparing to charge him accordingly.
Police caught the suspect red-handed inside an apartment where he was attempting another theft. The arrest came after a female victim reported the burglary of her belongings to law enforcement.
“One of the affected women contacted the police to report the theft of her property. Officers quickly located the suspect and apprehended him directly inside an apartment where he was trying to commit another theft,” police stated.
