Armenian National Detained in Kyiv
A 53-year-old Armenian citizen, wanted by Interpol since 2005, has been arrested in Kyiv. The detention took place as part of an investigation into a group suspected of illegally possessing firearms, explosives, and explosive devices. In Armenia, he is wanted for multiple serious crimes, including:
- premeditated murder,
- intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm,
- document forgery.
While in Ukraine, the man used two passports under different surnames. One listed his birthplace as Simferopol, in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. The other belonged to a deceased resident of Zakarpattia who died in 2012. The court ordered his arrest pending extradition to Armenia, a request submitted by prosecutors from the Darnytsia District Prosecutor’s Office in Kyiv.
Law enforcement officials note that the man is wanted in Armenia for several serious offenses. Separately, in Vinnytsia, migration police detained another foreigner who was also on an international wanted list for kidnapping and raping a minor. That suspect has been placed in a temporary detention facility.
The arrest of an Armenian citizen in Ukraine highlights the active cooperation between Ukrainian law enforcement and international organizations like Interpol in combating transnational crime.
This incident underscores the importance of monitoring documents used by foreigners in Ukraine, as the detainee employed forged passports. Furthermore, the arrest of another foreigner in Vinnytsia on suspicion of serious crimes shows that law enforcement continues to actively identify and detain individuals who pose a threat to society—a crucial step in ensuring public safety.
