Lithuania Funds a Kyiv Replica of King Mindaugas Bridge

Литва підтримує створення копії мосту короля Міндаугаса в Києві.

A New Pedestrian Bridge for Kyiv's Obolon District

A new pedestrian bridge, financed by Lithuania, will be constructed in a park on Pryrichna Street in Kyiv's Obolon district. This structure will be a replica of the King Mindaugas Bridge in Vilnius and will form a key part of a major renovation of the park's southwestern section. This project underscores the strong partnership between Ukraine and Lithuania, which has been particularly significant since Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022.

Funding from Vilnius City Municipality and the Lithuanian Cooperation Development Fund will cover the construction costs, making it free for Kyiv's budget. The project concept was discussed with local residents during public consultations, allowing their feedback and needs to be incorporated. The new bridge will be fully accessible, ensuring comfortable conditions for all visitors.

Technical Specifications and Site Improvements

Following a technical meeting in early March 2026, it was confirmed the bridge will be operational, provided certain transport restrictions are observed. Importantly, the structure will also be designated as a local architectural monument.

  • An annual two-month spring campaign for urban beautification, landscaping, and sanitation improvements will run from March 16 to May 15.
  • City services have already begun clearing the area following the winter season.

This initiative will not only enhance Kyiv's infrastructure but also highlights the ongoing cooperation between Ukraine and Lithuania in urban development. The new pedestrian bridge could become a significant tourist attraction for the district, as architectural replicas of famous landmarks often draw public interest. Its accessible design further demonstrates a commitment to making the city more inclusive for all residents and visitors.

As Kyiv continues to enhance its infrastructure, the planned new pedestrian crossings will further improve accessibility and safety for residents and visitors. These initiatives, alongside the upcoming replica of the King Mindaugas Bridge, illustrate a broader commitment to urban development and community engagement in the city.
