In Kemerovo region, one of the largest coal mines in the area - 'Spiridonovskaya' - has suspended its operations. Until recently, about 900 people were employed at the enterprise. This was reported by 'Glavkom' citing the Ministry of Coal Industry of Kuzbass.
Coal production at the mine was halted back in early June 2025 due to lack of funding. Currently, the enterprise's debts to employees for wages, vacation pay, and other payments are estimated at approximately 90 million rubles.
At the end of May, the mine's management announced mass layoffs affecting 760 workers. According to a company representative, about 120 people left the enterprise voluntarily over the month. Currently, a group of about 130 people remains at the mine, ensuring the operation of key facilities and responsible for safety and technical systems.
Since the beginning of 2025, around 214 thousand tons of coal have been extracted. The regional ministry of coal industry reported that the suspension of activities is linked to a 'severe shortage of investment resources'. It's unclear whether the operation will be restored, whether new investors are being sought, or if bankruptcy proceedings have been initiated.
The 'Spiridonovskaya' coal mine has suspended operations in Kemerovo region. The reason is financial problems that led to mass layoffs of mine workers. Currently, the future of the enterprise remains uncertain due to lack of investment resources and the unknown fate of debts to employees.
