“glorifying formations responsible for crimes against civilians harms the historical memory of our nation, wounds the memory of Polish victims, and complicates building a sincere dialogue between our countries.”
Polish officials reacted strongly to the decree. Among them was Karol Nawrocki, President of Poland, who suggested that Zelenskyy should be stripped of the Order of the White Eagle, Poland’s highest state distinction. In response, Heorhii Tykhyi, a spokesperson for Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed regret over Poland’s reaction and stressed the need to maintain good neighborly relations.
